Alpine accommodations

June 3, 2014 Green Tourism Australia Green Tourism

Green tourism offers the opportunity to experience some of the world’s natural treasures in a way that limits the impact on the environment. In New South Wales, there are plenty of options for ecotourism for residents and visitors alike.

The alpine cottages of the Snowy Mountain offer a one of a kind experience that can be great for families and couples. Located in the Crackenback Valley, tourists can find 18 self-contained cottages that offer a sustainable wilderness vacation. Rates for these cottages currently range from $190 to $250 in the summer and $225 to $570 in the winter.

The environmental initiative of the resort includes the use of sustainable design techniques in the building of the cabins and the use of environmentally sound management of the land and facilities. The cabins are nestled into the landscape in order to have a minimal impact on the ecosystem and the construction of the buildings employs practices such as passive solar design and thermal mass. Along with that, the resort also uses sustainable practices in regard to electricity, water and waste management.

The cottages of the Snowy Mountains not only offer a scenic vacation that is environmentally friendly, but they also offer a range of activities. Tourists will find great access to fishing, hiking, horse riding, skiing and boating.

This resort can be booked through your local travel agent. It has a range of accommodations that can suit parties of 2-4 that include cabins with 2 king-sized beds, 4 single beds or 1 king and 2 singles. Each cabin has full cooking facilities including a Weber grill and a shared laundry is available.
